He didn't elaborate, shy, classy, didn't want to embarrass Japanese fans? But note that he comes from a family of practicing Christians. Which is uncommon in Japan. Christians in Japan faced prosecution in older times. There was a secret mirror. I don't know how far back his family practiced Christianity.
The people who keep making comments about gambling, come on, there's reports of him spending very little money and his mother gave him an allowance when he was with the Angels. He also picks rubbish off the field and gave Will Smith the side eye when Will threw his gum on the field.

He is Japan’s golden boy; if there’s any leaked photos of him either being topless/half naked etc, the media especially his team will for sure get rid of it immediately. His family is quite powerful as well due to their connections so I’m sure they will be there to protect his image as well.
He’s got such a clean image here in Japan, everywhere you go you’ll see his face; banks, drinks, posters, taxis, you name it.

Damn, so he can't go to the beach or anything? He spends a good chunk of his year in southern California!
I didn't think about that aspect. Clean image affecting endorsements. Is it a different standard for Yokozuna Sumo Wrestlers or it's just part of the sport? I didn't know Akebono passed this year.

Yes, unfortunately the image standards here for sports are very different and baseball is the top sport in Japan, even regular league domestic players try to keep a clean image due to sponsorships and endorsements.
I am friends with a few baseball players and they don’t even play for a league but they try their hardest to not be seen drunk or smoking in public just in case it affects their future lol.

He can do but like in a way going to the beach and going topless is considered “normal” but even here in Japan, during summer time, men in beaches still wear T-shirts and they do it out of respect for women and especially children.
You do get the odd ones going topless but it’s the men who go to the gym and want to show off their progress; and let me tell you, they are fucking hooooooooot

What's your take on this?1. It would bring more attention to the gambling accusation.
2. The cards rightfully belong to him and he doesn't want any money to go to the Mizuhara. This is one of the things he can retrieve from the gambling.
3. Maybe he wants to put them back on the market so others can enjoy them or maybe even for his future children.

He's so cute! Also I can't wait to see him pitching again this year. Curious how pitching regularly again will impact his hitting after a year of just hitting. (Of course I'd also love to see shirtless pics, shorts, nudity - but he's so modest & careful of his image we're probably never going to see that. Sigh.)
